TRANSITIONS:
YOUTHFUL OFFENDER MENTORING PROGRAM
Transitions: Youthful Offenders Mentoring Program is our award-winning program that matches young male and female inmates with caring and committed adults who are volunteers from around the state. These non-judgmental and supportive mentoring relationships enhance self-confidence and facilitate the development of a realistic life plan. Prerelease planning and family involvement are important components.

What is mentoring?
Mentoring is a one-to-one relationship through
which an adult fosters the development of character and competence in
a young person. Responsible mentoring focuses on the needs of youth,
fosters caring and supportive relationships and encourages youth to develop
their full potential and vision for the future.

Requirements for Mentors |

A minimum of commitment of four hours
per month, for approximately one year. Commitments of 3-6 months will
also be considered. |

Mentors must be screened and approved
by Family ReEntry and the Connecticut Department of Correction. |

Mentors are required to attend a training
session, and the correctional facilitys security orientation. |
| |
CT state law prohibits contact with the
youth after the youths release from prison. |

a 12-week life skills training program. |
